We believe that a baby dedication does not save the baby’s soul. The Bible is clear that salvation is a personal choice for each individual once that person is old enough to understand sin, punishment, and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for their sin. So while this dedication does not save the child, we do see good examples in the Bible of babies and little children being dedicated to the Lord for His care, nurturing and guidance.
Jesus was taken to the temple as a child and was blessed by the leaders of the temple. In the Old Testament, Hannah took her young child, Samuel, to the temple to dedicate his young life to the Lord. Hannah said this upon arrival to the temple, “For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord.”
We believe that a baby dedication shows 3 important things:
1) a heart of thankfulness to the Lord for blessing your family with this precious life
2) a realization that this child is entrusted to your family as a gift from a good God
3) an acknowledging that this child is to be raised to love, honor and serve God all of his/her days
